No spelling errors have been corrected NAMES MENTIONED Collins, Henry T Collins, Jane Dowdy, Rainy Medlin, Daniel Sears, W W Smith, Daniel Warner, William September 8, 1851 TO: Mr W W Sears, N C Moore County, Carthage September 8the 1851 State of North Carolina Cumberl and County Dear Brother I take the oppertunity of writing you a few lines to inform you that we are all well and hope that these few lines may reach and find you all Enjoying the same like blessing I have wrote you two or three letters of which I never got any answer I hope it will not be so when you get this one I am not done my mill yet But I hope that I shall pretty soon accomplish it if the watter will get out of my way I would be very glad to see you down here for a week or two if you want any mony you will do well to come down next Saturday or Sunday and work abou a couple of weeks it seems dealacious hard that every boddy does try to work against me there Very Best ?arrett come down here and becase I would not give him forth cents a day he left and people Down this way thinks that I am obbliged to have hands and for that Reason they think that they will get all that I am to get for the mill But I will Show them Better I will Do Every lick of work mysef first Daniel Smith is all the help I have had yet I am Done getting all my timber and it is halled to the place I have Dug out the Seaat and have got the foundation framed and part of the Rest I want you to come down now and stay tull it is finished so th at you will see what A nice mill I can Build if I had A Bout A couple of hands I would get Done in A Bout A couple of weeks if it had not raind So much tell William Warner tht I have Bought a buggy and have got a job in Brunswick County that I am going to in A Bout 3 or 4 weeks at the farthest tell him if he is a going off with me then he had better stay at home and fix himself By that time and if he is not A going he had Better Come Down when you Do if you come tell him maybe he had as well come down A Saturday Any how and you too if you can leave your fodder I Shall think write hard of you if you Do not come after telling if i would get a job you would help me A Bout it Aunt Rainy Dowdy said that Mss Sears told uncle Daniel Medlins wife that She heard that Jane was under the Doctor But if She gets under the Doctor it will be the first time since she had the Measles She has been as well all the since you seen her as she was when you saw her I want you to Send me the Reason that you would not come down to help me that is if you donot come this time The Reason is asked why you Dident Come Down it Becaus your price was not large Anough was it Becaus you thought that if you would Come Down and work you would not get Any pay for it was it Bacaus you thought that would not give you as much as some of the Rest and you thought that you could Do as much work and Do it Better than the Rest or was it Bacause it was too hot to work or was it Becaus you were too lazy to work Yours Henry T Collins
