Entered railway service 1877, as telegraph operator Wilmington & Weldon Rd, a part of the Atlantic Coast Line system, since which he has been consecutively 1878 to 1880, station agent; 1880 to 1882, freight conductor; 1882 to Nov. 1890, passenger conductor; Nov. 1890 to March 1, 1893, station master at Wilmington, NC; March 1, 1893 to Nov. 1, 1898, trainmaster at Norfolk, Va; Nov. 1, 1898 to Oct. 1, 1900, assistant superintendent transportation Norfolk & Carolina Rd (Norfolk division Atlantic Coast Line) at Norfolk, Va; Oct. 1, 1900 to Jan. 1, 1903, assistant superintendent transportation Kinston, Washington and Plymouth branches in eastern North Carolina at Norfolk, Va; Jan. 1, 1903 to April 1, 1905, superintendent Norfolk district at Norfolk; April 1 to Sept. 10, 1905, superintendent Charleston district at Charleston, SC; Sept 10, 1905 to May 1, 1908, superintendent transportation first division at Wilmington, NC; May 1, 1908 to date, general superintendent first division same road; entire service with Atlantic Coast Line.
