Ricks, 1848 to 7-5-1905, son of Amos & Martha Ricks Karen Bell was born in Richmond, Virginia and died in Madison, Wisconsin. She was raised in Hampton, Virginia as well as Park Forest and University Park, Illinois, 1963 to 1981, and lived in Madison, Wisconsin from 1981 to 2004. Her parents, Earl P. Bell, Jr. was born in Roanoke Rapids, Halifax County, North Carolina [1938], raised in Aulander, Bertie County, North Carolina from 1939 to 1956 and Donna Jean Campbell born and raised in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, NC, 1938 to 1956. The following three graves were moved from John Lindsey Bell’s last farm, near Benevenue, NC in Edgecombe County, by Raymond Bell, 4080 Oak Level Road, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The grave inscriptions read: John L. Bell, 5-20-1955 to 6-10-1915 [John Lindsey Bell, Sr.] Lula Rose Bell, 2-2-1874 to 2-8-1955, second wife of John L. Bell James T. Bell, 7-4-1899 to 3-16-1935, son of John L. and Lula Rose Bell, no headstone Additional family information provided by Raymond Bell and Earl Bell: John Lindsey Bell, Sr. was the oldest son of James Henry Bell, Sr. and Lucinda Evans Bell from Black Creek Township, Wilson County, North Carolina. James Henry Bell, Sr. fought in 55th North Carolina Infantry, Company A, during the Civil War. He was wounded in the right arm at The Battle of Wilderness, May 4, 1864, moved to the Confederate Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia, died there on the May 24, 1864, and is buried in a single grave. Close by his grave site is a mass grave, since the injured men were dying so often. Such burials around Confederate “hospitals” was a common practice at the hospital in the final years of the war. John Lindsey Bell’s mother Lucinda Evans Bell received a Widow's Pension from the State of North Carolina in 1902, died in 1906, and is buried in the Black Creek Cemetery, Black Creek, North Carolina with here daughter Mary Bell Horne and son James Henry Bell, Jr. John Lindsey Bell's first wife was Della Josephine Aycock from the Black Creek area of Wilson County, NC. They were married January 27, 1881, in Wilson County, NC, and she died in 1887 in Wilson County. They had two surviving children were Albert Turner Bell [1882 – 1946] and Joseph Adrian Bell of Wilson and Nash Counties, NC. Also, they had a daughter Edith Irma Bell, who died in child birth. John Lindsey Bell's second wife was Lula Rose Bell. They were married in Wilson County, NC, in 1889, and moved to Nash County in the mid-1890s, between 1893 and 1896, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. James Thomas Bell, the fifth son of John Lindsey Bell and Lula Rose Bell, was born July 4, 1899, died March 16, 1935 and is buried in the Bells-Ricks Cemetery on Oak Level Road. Paul Vernon Bell was the second son of John Lindsey Bell and Lula Rose Bell. He was born September 10, 1893, in Wilson County, NC, married Rosa Perry Whitley, September 14, 1919, and died January 30, 1965 in Oak Level Township, Nash County, NC. His wife Rosa Perry Whitley Bell was born September 2, 1895, and died July 8, 1974, in Nash County, NC. ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
