Raymond Ransom Batchelor, 83, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at his 
home.  He was born November 17, 1918, in Nash County, son of the late Larry 
Crawford and Emma Coggin Batchelor.  Raymond was the owner of Batchelor's 
Appliance Service.  He was a member of Rocky Mount Bible Church.  As a WWII 
Navy veteran, he served in the South Pacific on the USS Baham.  He was a 
dedicated Christian husband, father and Papa.  His pastimes included fishing, 
gardening, and having cookouts for family, friends and church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Cooper Batchelor, of the 
home; two sons, William "Ray" Batchelor and wife, Phyllis of Wilmington, and 
James Rudy Batchelor and wife, Julia, of Nashville; one sister, Mazell Pridgen 
of Nashville; one brother, William A. Batchelor of Momeyer; four 
grandchildren, Jim Batchelor of North Attleboro, Mass., Kevin Batchelor and 
wife, Mindy, of Rocky Point, Glen Batchelor and wife, April, of Wrightsboro, 
and Kelly Batchelor and wife, Shona, of Hampstead; and five great-
grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Friday, January 25, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Rocky 
Mount Bible Church, with the Rev. Walter Cooper officiating.  Burial will 
follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial 
may be made to Hospice of Nash General Hospital, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, 
Rocky Mount, NC 27804, or to Rocky Mount Bible Church, Building Fund, 5630 
Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bowling Funderal Home, 661 English Road, Rocky 
Mount, NC 27804.
