Hampton -- Nellie G. Battle passed away on Monday, October 15, 2007 at Sentara 
Careplex Hospital.  Mrs. Battle was born on December 12, 1913, in Nash County, 
NC to the late Willie and Mary Gilliam. Mrs. Battle was the widow of the late 
Rev. C. B. Battle.  They resided in Richmond, VA for many years.  She was a 
member of Second Baptist Church in Richmond, VA.  Nell, as she was 
affectionately called, was preceded in death by her mother and father; 
husband, son, Wayne Battle; brothers, Willie, Cleophas, and Norman Gilliam; 
and her sister, Beatrice Daye.  Mrs. Battle leaves to cherish her memory two 
sisters, Bertha Cooper of Hampton, VA, and Kate Hawkins of Boston, MA; two 
special nieces, Lorraine Somerville and Patricia Lipscombe; and number of 
nieces and nephews.  A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 
19, 2007, at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton.  The 
Battle family is receiving services of comfort at Nicholson-Cummings Funeral 
Home, 4304 Victorial Blvd., Hampton.
