[Wilmington NC], August 19, 1898 Rocky Mount Telegram: An old "fortune teller" named Hester Brantley, who lived near here in Nash county, died suddenly on Monday afternoon. She had been telling fortunes for over fifty years at a quarter per tell and only $8 was found in her house. The neighbors learned that the old woman always went to her smokehouse every Saturday at midnight. A few digs with spades unearthed several old coffee pots filled with silver. The whole find amounted nearly to $500.
