Cook Will In the name of God Amen I G. L. Cook of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina being week (sic) in body and of sound mind, memory and understanding, praise be to God for the same, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following: I give, devise and bequeath unto my daughter Mary A. Alford her heirs and assigns forever one half of my real estate. I give, devise and bequeath unto my dought (sic) Annie E. Portis her heirs and assigns forever the other half of my real estate. I give, devise & bequeath unto the heirs of my son James H. Cook one dollar each to come out of any money or other personal property not mentioned in this will. I give, devise and bequeath unto my gran dought (sic) Annie H. Avent my household & kitchin (sic) furniture and ox, ox cart & farm tool (sic). And I do nominate constitute and appoint Thos. V. Avent sole executrix (sic) of this my last will and testament; hereby revoking and making void all and every other wills or will at any time heretofore made by me, and I do declare this to be my last will and testament. Avent Proven before me July 10, 1891 //End of the handwritten will// //The following is the text of a certificate filed with the will.// State of North Carolina Nash County In Superior Court in the matter of the last will of G. L. Cook It appearing to the Court by the oath and examination of T. P. Alford and G. G. Avent the subscribing witnesses thereto, that the paper writing propounded by the Executor therein named, is the last will and testament of G. L. Cook and that the same was duly executed by said G. L. Cook in the presence of said witnesses and that at the time of signing the same the said G. L. Cook was of sound mind. It is thereupon adjudged that the said paper writing be admitted to probate as the last will and testament of the said G. L. Cook and the Executor therein named qualify as such. State Archives. There were two James H. Cook's in Nash County prior to 1900. The James H. Cook named in this will should not be confused with Andrew Jackson (A. J.) Cook's son of the same name.//
