Written: October 14, 1793 Last Will and Testament of Henry Screws 1793 ~ Nash County, NC In the name of God Amen, I Henry Screws of the State of North Carolina and Nash County being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect sense and memory thanks be to almighty God for the same calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make constitute and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows, First I give my soul to God that gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my friends that survive me Item I give and bequeath to my eldest son John Screws one horse bridle and saddle which he has in his possession now and also one feather bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath to my son James Screws my one eyed horse bridle and saddle and also one feather bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Screws one chest also one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Polly Screws one large chest and also one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter Anna Robertson one chest and six pewter plates and also one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my two sons William Screws and Littleton Screws all my land to be equally divided between them and all the rest of my estate to be sold except the negroes and after my just debts are paid my desire is that out of the remainder of the money which my estate fetches my two sons William Screws and Littleton Screws each of them should have a horse to the value of ten pounds Virginia money and my four negroes Frank and Nance and Tis and Jude to be hired out until my youngest child comes to the age of twenty one years and then they and thier increase if any to be equally divided between my grand daughter and all my children. My grand daughter Anna Robertson should die without an heir lawfully begotten of her body then her part of my estate to be equally divided amoungst all my children Lastly I nominate and appoint Josiah Nicholson and John Powell to execute this my last will and testament and here by revoking all former Wills by me made In witness where of I have here unto set my hand and seal this 14th day of October 1793 AD. Signed sealed and delivered in presence of HENRY SCREWS John Wiggins and Susanna Powell (seal) Nash County The foregoing Will was duly proven in open court and the oath of John Wiggans a subscribing witness their to and on motion ordered to be recorded Attest Wm.
