I John Wells Sr. of the County of Nash and State of No. Car. being in good health and of mind and memory blessed be to God for his kind murce [mercy] mak[e] and ordaine this to be my last will and Testament in manner and form as following first revoking all wills here to for be[e]n maide [made] by me --- and for my Exer. here after named and for what Estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I give as followeth (viz) --- Iteam [Item] All the property that I have here to fore given to my son Elijah Wells and has put in his pessision [possession] cluding [including] monys [monies] I give to him and his heirs for ever & there fore I give him noe [no] more – Item. I give and bequeth [bequeath] to my beloved Daughter Miltildea B. Joiner fore [Four] hundred dollars besides what I have here to fore give to here [her] unto here [her] hires [heirs] for ever. Iteam. I give and bequth [bequeath] to my beloved Daughter Salley Poulen one Negroe Boy by the name of Jacob and all The property I have here to for put in Her persision [possession] to here [her] and her heirs for ever. Iteam. I give and bequath [bequeath] to my beloved Daughter Polley Young the lands & plantation Where on she now liv[e]s call[e]d the Marrs land Lying in Nash & Edgecome [Edgecombe] Countys Say 144 Acres be the same more or less to her and her heirs for ever. Iteam. I give and bequeth [bequeath] to my daughter Temperence Braswell fore [Four] hundred dollars to her And her heirs for ever – Iteam. I give and bequth [bequeath] unto six of my Grand childreld [children] by the names of Meltaldia Lee, William Lee, Berrey Lee Emley Lee, Polley Lee and Jeremiah Lee as follows Jeremiah is to have At his age of twenty one years oulde [old] two Tracts or parcels of land lying in the Countys of Nash & Edgecombe none [known] by the name of Mary & Daughty this tract has 52 acres & the other 100 where of Joe Lee lives be the Same more or less & the other named 5 children Above I give & bequeth [bequeath] two hundred & fifty Dollars too pervisd [provided] theay shall be aney of Them to die befor[e] get[t]ing in pessision [possession] Of the Land or mon[e]y its part is to be ecual [equal] devided [divided] among the reveaing [surviving] partis [parties] to them for ever. Item. I lend the two tracts of land above given to Jeremiah Lee from this time to his Father Joseph Lee by his payen [paying] the taxes yearly until Jeremiah Lee arrivs [arrives] to the age of one & Twenty pervisd [provided] that said Joseph shall live to that age and pervisd [provided] that Jerry dies befor[e] one and Twenty and his father lives til that time he is to have the us[e] of the said 152 acres up to that time & noe [no] longer. Iteam. I give & bequeath to my grand daughter above named Metlalda Lee one feather bed Sted & firnetur [furniture] & flax wheel that is now In the cear [care] of her father Joseph Lee to her for ever. Iteam. I give and bequath [bequeath] unto one more of my grandsons Say Willie S. Wells three tracts or parcels of land all in Nash County Say 182 ¼ acres be the same more or less 100 of noe [known] as the Crowell tracts & 8 acres is called the Joiner land on the County line & the 74 ¼ acres is Joining Andrew J. Williams part of the house tracts Bounded by E.L. Curle & one negroe girle by the name of Milberry one gray mare Bridle & Saddle & 1 shot gun to him & his heirs for ever. Item. I give unto Dennis L. Wells one tract of Land in the grant called the E. Flood land bought from his Heirs Say 133 ½ acres be the same mor[e] or less in Nash County to have & his heirs for ever. Iteam. I give and bequath [bequeath] unto my Beloved son Joel Wells one Negroe boy Toney & what I have here to fore given unto him to him & his heirs for ever. Iteam. I give and bequath [bequeath] unto my beloved son Hanseal Wells one negar man by the name of Cane & all the rest of the rest of the property that I have here to for given to him to him & his heirs for ever. Iteam. I give unto my beloved son John Wells the balance of the house tract after taking out Willie S. Wells 74 ¼ acres as above named and all the residue of my lands that is not here to fore named cluding [including] my houses where on I lives {Tin…?} brought on [b…?] about three hundred ninety for [four] acres & ¼ be the same more or less bounded by the grants & deeds one negroe woman & child Isaac The woman name is Milley one still & [woosme?] One feather bed sted & firneture [furniture] and all the Residue of the property that I have put in his perssion [possession] & given of to him & his heirs for ever. Iteam. I live for all the balance of my negares not named in my will Stock notes or money & all the Residue of the paresible [parishable] Estate not given away that may be found on hand to be solde on a credit of six months & my Just debts first paid & the will legacies paid out as named & the surplus part that may be in hand if aney to be ecual [equally] divided betall [between] 5 of my childrel [children] to wit Sally Paulen, Polley Young, Hansel Wells, Joel Wells & John Wells the sale is to be maid [made] by My Execr here after names --- Iteam.
