May 20, 1802 Wilmington Gazette Written: May 11, 1802 Recorded: May 20, 1802 BANKRUPSY OF GIBBS & BARCLAY Whereas GEORGE GIBBS, late partner of the House of GIBBS and BARCLAY, on the 10th instant, made an assignment to the subscribers, of all such Goods, Effect, Monies, Bonds and Accoounts as did heretofore belong or pertain to the said Firm of GIBBS & BARCLAY; and equally with himself gave us Power to settle, collect and receive the same; and finally to determine all matters and things relative to their Business, especially such parts as might require to be transacted in New Hanover County. The first object of the premises is to pay the Bonds due to the United States for duties. -- The second purpose, for the proportional benefit of Creditors. Notice is hereby given that daily attendant will be continued by the Assignees at the office theretofore occupIed by GIBBS & BARCLAY, wherein their books are now deposited. All persons having unsettled accounts with the said Company are requsted to bring them in for adjustment; and those indebted are required to make immediate payment to prevent the disagreeable altlernate of suits in Law.
