New Hanover County, NC - Presbyterian Church - Act For Lottery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act to authorise the Trustees of the Presbyterian Church of the town of Wilmington, to raise the sum of six thousand dollars by way of Lottery, for the completion of said Church Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Thomas Cowan, Gabriel Holmes junr, Archibald M. Hooper, James Dickson, William Mackay, Archibald Taylor, John Walker and John M'Call, be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners in behalf of the Trustees of the Presbyterian Church in the town of Wilmington, with full power and authority to raise by way of Lottery, the sum of six thousand dollars to be applied to the completion of said church, after such scheme or schemes as said commissioners shall think proper. And be it further enacted, That said Trustees and Commissioners shall be liable individually for the forth-coming of all such prizes as may be drawn, or in case said Lottery be undrawn within two years from the publication of said scheme or schemes, then for the re-payment of all sums advanced on the sale of Tickets. And be it further enacted, That in case any of the commissioners herein before mentioned, shall refuse to act, then it shall be lawful for said Trustees to appoint others in their stead, who shall be entitled to the same privileges and subject to the same liabilities.
