New Hanover County, NC - Charlotte McDonald - Act for Relief ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act for the relief of Charlotte McDonald Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That immediately from and after the passage of this act, Charlotte McDonald, late of the county of New Hanover, and widow of Isaac McDonald, late a pilot on Cape Fear river, be, and she is hereby discharged from any punishment to which she may be liable on conviction, by reason of having intermarried with a certain Simon Sellers, during the lifetime of the said Isaac McDonald; any law, usage, or custom to the contrary notwithstanding. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the Solicitor for the fifth Judicial circuit, be, and he is hereby directed, to stay all proceedings which may have heretofore been had on an indictment for Bigamy, pending in the Superior Court of law for the county of New Hanover, against the said Charlotte McDonald.
