All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Guy Potts http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00017.html#0004214 May 10, 2018, 8:25 pm Source: N C Archives Written: 1808 NC Archives - New Hanover County, NC Register of Deeds Deed Book O, page 505 Nathaniel Potts & Others Power of Attorney to John Leamy, 1808 Letter of Attorney in the case of Schooner Aley Ann to John Leamy Know all men by these presents that on the twenty day of November in the year of our Lord 1808 before me George Heyle Jr Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania dwelling in the city of Philadelphia duly commissioned and by law authorized to receive proof and acknowledgement of Letters of Attorney and in the presence of the witness hereafter named personally came and appeared Thomas Fitzimmons president of the Delaware Insurance Company assurers of Samuel Brooks; George Latimer president of the Union Insurance Company of Philadelphia assurers for Nathaniel Potts; John Leamy president of the Marine and Fire Insurance Company of Philadelphia assurers of Condy and Racquet; W W Woodard, Benjamin and Thomas Kite, James Barclay & Co, George Smith and Samuel Keith assurers for William Bell and J Wright which said appears declared to have made, ordained, nominated and appointed and by these presence do ordain, nominate and appoint and in their place and steadfast and John Leamy president of the Marine and Fire Insurance Company of Philadelphia to be their true and lawful attorney giving and by these presents granting unto the said attorney John Leamy full power and lawful authority for the said constituents in their name and for their use and behalf to ask, demand and receive of and from Joshua Potts Esq’r of Wilmington, North Carolina the amount of the goods saved from the Schooner Aley Ann, Abram Golden master, the proceeds of which said goods were secured by the said Joshua Potts Esq’r in three notes of drawn by Aaron Lazarus paid to Levy and Carrol who endorsed them for $4,917.18 payable in three installments: No 1 - for $402.18 on the first day of April 1809 No 2 - for $1,665 on the 1st day of October 1809 No 3 - for $2,850 on the 1st day of April 1810 and all such sums of money, goods, wares, merchandise, debts and effects whatsoever as now is or are or shall or may hereafter be in his hands, custody or possession due reasonable or receivable by reason or on account there of and upon recovery or receipt in the premises to give one or more acquittances or other sufficient discharges in due form of law and generally in the premises to do, execute and perform all and whatever shall be required and necessary in as full and ample manner to all intents and purposes as we the said constituents might or could do if personally present In witness whereof the said constituents have hereunto set their hands and seals and passed at Philadelphia aforesaid in the presents of the witness hereto subscribed George Heyle Jr April 2, 1811 John Leamy appointed Joshua Potts attorney for Fitzsimmons, Latimer, Leamy, Woodward, Kite and Kite, Barclay, Smith and Keith to carry out duties in above power of attorney Exhibited in court under seal of George Heyle Jr Nov 1812 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/newhanover/court/potts2651gwl.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ncfiles/ File size: 3.6 Kb
