Petition of behalf of Thomas Rogers, New Hanover

                             April-May 1780

To the Worthy Representatives of the State of North Carolina and Gentlemen 
speakers of both houses mett in General Assembly of Newbern.
	The humble Petition of the inhabitants of Black River in Hanover County 
shewith, that whereas Thos. Rogers of the County aforesaid has bin a great 
sufferer by the Tories in this Province and like wise several of his Neighbors, 
and that the said Rogers pursuied the said Tories, and took from them two horses 
And two Waggons, one horse and one Waggon Deliver. To General Moore, the other 
horse and Waggon still in possession of sd Rogers, and that several other Horses 
& Waggons are still In the said Neighborhood that was taken from the Tories, 
Therefore we the subscribers prayeth your indulgence that the said Thos Rogers 
may be impower to take and sell at Public Sale such effects as he can find in 
said Neighbour hood that was taken from the said Tories in order to make good his 
own Damages and likewise those of others sustained by the Tories and what ever 
may remain after said damage made good Apploy’d to such use as you in your Wisdom 
shall direct And your humble Petitioners in duty bound shall ever pray.
