Lewis HINES to Amos WOOTEN, both of New Hanover Co., NC
29 Jan. 1857

This Indenture made the 29th day of January in the year of Our Lord One Thousand 
eight hundred and fifty seven (1857) between Lewis HINES of the County of New 
Hanover and State of North Carolina of the one part, and Amos WOOTEN of the same 
place of the Second part, Witnesseth, that I the said Lewis HINES, for and in 
consideration of the Sum of Ten Dollars ($10) to me in hand paid by the said 
Amos WOOTEN, the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged hath bargained, 
sold conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents do bargain sell convey and 
confirm, unto the said Amos WOOTEN his heirs and assigns forever, a certain 
tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of New Hanover and State 
aforesaid on the West side of Holly Shelter Creek, Bounded as follows; Viz; 
Beginning at a Stale. and runs thence S 85 E 232 poles to a pine, thence N 47 E 
21 poles to Bryant WOOTEN’S corner, thence with WOOTEN’S line N 80 West 258 
poles to a pine his corner, thence a strait line to the Beginning, containing 
forty two (42) acres more or less. to have and to hold, with all and singular 
the woods, ways, mines, waters, rents, profits Whereas or in anywise 
appertaining to the above described lands to him the said Amos WOOTEN his heirs 
administrators and assigns, to their proper use and behoof in fee simple 
absolute forever and I the said Lewis HINES for myself my heirs and assigns will 
Warrant and forever defend the same against the claim or claims of any and all 
persons whatever.
