BB, p. 1-2 Lewis HINES & wife Mary Ann HINES to John C. WOOD & Robert B. WOOD, all of New Hanover Co., NC 1 Nov. 1844 This Indenture made the first day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four between Lewis HINES and Mary Ann HINES, his wife of the County of New Hanover in the State of North Carolina of the first part and John C. WOOD and Robert B. WOOD of the same place of the second part. Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five dollars lawful money of the United State of America to them in hand paid by the said parties of the second part at or before the unsealing and delivery of these presents to the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted, bargained, sold aliened revised released conveyed and confirmed and by these present do grant bargain sell alien revise release convey and confirm unto the said parties of the second part and to their heirs and assigns forever all that tract piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of New Hanover aforesaid on Smith’s Creek below the Mill, now belonging to Parker Quince and Nathaniel M. HILL and formerly known as CAMPBELL’S Mill beginning at the mouth of a branch thence with said branch to its head, thence southerly to a stake below the new Race paths lines to the corner of the tract of land on which said Campbell’s Mills one situate thence with the lines of said tract to Smith’s Creek to a black gum, thence with the Creek to the beginning being the tract or parcel of land conveyed by Duncan CLARK to said Mary Ann HINES by deed dated Dec. 24th, 1839 and registered in the Record of New Hanover in Book Y, page 368 Together with all and singular the tenements, hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversion and reversions remainders and remainders rents expenses and profits thereof And also all the estates right, title interest property possession I am and demand whatsoever as well in I am as in equity as the said parties of the first part of in an to the above described premises and every part and parcel hereof with the appurtenances To have and to hold the above granted and described premises with the appurtenances unto the said parties of the second part their heirs and assigns to their own proper use and behoof forever. And the said Lewis HINES for himself his heirs , executors and administrators does covenant promise and agree to and with the said parties of the second part his heirs and assigns the above mentioned and described premises in the quiet and peaceable possession of the said parties of the second part their heirs and assigns against the said parties of the first part their heirs and against all and every person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming to claim the same and shall and all warrant and by these presents forever defend. BAILEY one of the Judges of the Superior Courts of Law and Equity in and for the State of North Carolina, Lewis HINES and Mary Ann HINES, the bargainers in the within deed who severally acknowledged the due execution thereof the said Mary Ann HINES being first privily examined by me separate and apart from her said husband whether she doth voluntarily apart acknowledged that the same was freely and voluntarily executed by her and that she doth now voluntarily agree to thereto.
