K, p. 139-140 Ethenton ROCHELLE to Joseph SCREWS-of New Hanover Co., NC 20 Nov. 1788 State of North Carolina New Hanover County To all to whom these presents shall come. I, Ethenton ROCHEL of the County of New Hanover, planter & State aforesaid send greeting. Know Ye that I the said Ethenton ROCHEL for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty One Pounds current money of the State to me in hand paid before unsealing & delivery of these presents by Joseph H. SCREWS of the County and state aforesaid, farmer the Receipt thereof I do thereby acknowledge and thereof and of every part & parcel Do clearly aquainte? Exonerate and discharge the said Joseph SCREWS his heirs Executors administrators or assigns and Every of them by these presents to have given granted bargained & sold all aliened —— conveyed confirmed assigned and set over and by these presents do —— freely clearly and absolutely give grant bargain alien — convey confirm assign and set over unto the said Joseph SCREWS his heirs and assigns forever a Certain plantation tract or parcel of Land contain gin by estimation One hundred and fifty acres of land lying and being in the county of New Hanover on both sides of Buckhorn a branch of Angola Beginning at a stake near SIMMONS Corner not he West side the Branch thence running with SIMMONS line, so One hundred and fifty poles to a stake near the head of a prong, of Buckhorn thence E one hundred and sixty pole crossing of Buckhorn to a stake thence N one hundred and fifty poles to a stake on near Duplin line thence W one hundred and fifty poles to the first station which said Land as by estimation is one hundred and fifty acres be the same more or less together with all —- Buildings Orchards gardens woods waters pastures and fences together with together with all profits commodities and hereditaments what ever to the same belonging or appertaining To have and to hold said plantation and as the same is bounded together with all and singular the premises herein before granted bargained and or sold unto the sd Joseph SCREWS his heirs and assigns to the soles and Benefit and behoof of him the said Joseph SCREWS his heirs and assigns forever and of the said Ethenton ROCHEL for myself my heirs Executors administrators and every of them do convey and grant to & with the same Joseph SCREWS his heirs and by these presents the aforesaid Law & premises discharge and from from all incumbencies whatsoever the quit rents only excepted to him the said Ethenton ROCHELL his heirs & assigns against all and every person or persons what so ever having any lawful claim to the said Land Will Warrant & forever defend according to the Strength of my Patent bearing date 1784 and in the Ninth year of our Independence in writing whereof I the said Ethenton ROCHEL have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twentieth day of November in the year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven Hundred & Eighty eight.
