Isaac ROCHELLE to John BATTS, both of New Hanover County.
15 March 1858

This Indenture, March this 15th day of March in the year of Our Lord 1858. 
Between Isaac ROCHELL of the one part and John BATTS of the other part; both 
of the State of North Carolina and County of New Hanover. Witnesseth that I, 
Isaac ROCHELL for and in Consideration of the sum of Five Hundred Dollars to 
me in hand paid, the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged hath given 
granted bargained sold settler and confirmed unto the said John BATTS his 
Heirs and assigns a certain track or parcel of land lying and being in the 
County aforesaid on the east side of the north east Branch of the Cape Fear 
River and on the west side of Angola Creek; Bounded as follows: beginning at a 
gum stump near ADAMS’S Marsh, Hester PICKETS corner thence with her line south 
20 east 90 poles to a cypress her corner on Angola Creek in John E HUSSEYS 
line thence south 55 west 90 poles to a stake thence north 35 west 180 poles 
to a stake thence north 55 east 90 poles to Hester PICKETS line thence with 
said line south 35 east 90 poles to the first station containing by estimation 
one hundred acres be it the same more or less to him the said John BATTS his 
heirs and assigns to have and to hold the above described lands and premises 
and I the said Isaac ROCHELLE do warrant and forever defend unto the said John 
BATTS his heirs and assigns free and clear from my my heirs executors 
administrators and assigns and against the lawful or Just claim or claims of 
any person or persons whatsoever.
In Witness whereof I the said Isaac ROCHELLE have hereunto set my hand and 
seal day and date first written.

The Execution of the deed is duly acknowledged by the maker thereof and
