Amos ROCHELLE to John JAMES both of New Hanover Co., NC
1 JUNE 1857

This Indenture made the first day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand 
eight hundred and fifty seven, between Amos ROCHELLE of the County of New 
Hanover and State of  North Carolina of the one part, and John JAMES of the 
county and State aforesaid of the other part; Witnesseth, that I the said Amos 
ROCHELLE for and in consideration of the sum of ninety six dollars to me in hand 
paid by the said John JAMES, the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged, 
hath bargained sold conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents doth bargain 
sell convey and confirm, unto the said John JAMES his heirs executors and 
administrators and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land lying in 
the County & State aforesaid, Bounded as follows (viz) situated on the West side 
of Moores Creek, adjoining the lands of said John JAMES, Beginning at the John 
BURTON corner, running thence S 90 W 114 Poles to a pine, thence N 12 West 26 
pole to a pine, thence N 83 W 179 poles to BURTON’S other corner, thence N 80 E 
237 poles to a stake, thence, N 10 W 32 poles to a pine, thence direct to the 
Beginning containing by estimation sixty four acres, be the same more or less to 
have and to hold, with all an singular the woods ways, minerals, waters, use, 
rents profits to us or in anywise appertaining to the above described lands to 
him the said John JAMES his heirs executors and assigns, to their proper use an 
behoof in fee simple absolutely forever, and I the said Amos ROCHELLE for myself 
my heirs executors and assigns, with Warrant and power defend the same, against 
the claims of any and persons whatsoever to him the said John JAMES.

above.
