Distinguished In Battle
   GASTON MEARES, ESQ. -- We understand that this gallant young North 
Carolinian (the son of the late WILLIAM B. MEARES, of Wilmington) greatly 
distinquished himself at the bloody Battle of Buena Vista by his collness and 
intrepidity. We once heard his father remark, that there was "as great 
difference in blood among men, as among horses," and his son has shown by his 
actys, that the good stock from which he's sprung, has not degenerated. -- 
Ral. Reg.
