New Hanover County, NC - Francis Davis Revolutionary War Pension ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The data which follow were obtained from papers on file in the pension claim S.8390 based upon the miltiary service of Francis Davis. He was born in 1756 in Brittan's Neck, Georgetown District, South Carolina. He enlisted about the winter of 1777 and served two months as private in Captains William Davis' (relationship not given) and Fletcher's companies in Colonel Hicks' South Carolina regiment. In the summer of 1778 he was commissioned captain and served three months in Colonel Hugh Giles' South Carolina regiment. He entered the service in 1780 and served two or two and one half months as captain in Colonel Hugh Giles' South Carolina regiment, was at the seige of Charleston. In a month or two after the surrender of Charleston he again entered the service and served upwards of four months as captain with the South Carolina troops under Colonel Francis Mariba, was in two skirmishes, one at Blue Savannah on the Little Pedee River and the other two miles up the Little Pedee River. From about November 1780 he served about four months as private in Captain William Wright's company with the North Carolina troops under Colonels Young and Bludworth. In the spring of 1781 he served six weeks or two months as private with the North Carolina troops under Captain Charles Ward and Colonel James Kenan. After the Revolution he lived in New Hanover County and Bladen Counties, North Carolina. He was allowed pension on his application executed April 1, 1833 while residing in Bladen County, North Carolina. In 1833 Captain James Devane, a resident of New Hanover County, North Carolina aged seventy-six years, testified in behalf of Francis Davis, no relationship given. In the papers of this claim are no data relative to wife or children of the soldier.
