While residing near Wilmington, New Hanover County, he volunteered very early in the Revolution and served at various times on tours of from three to six months each, at least twenty seven months in all, as a private under Captains Thomas Bloodworth, William Hubbard, Clayton, Gillespie, John De Vaughan, James Love and Col. William Caswell in the North Carolina Troops and in General Pulaski’s Legion. He was in the battles of Moore’s Creek Bridge, Cole’s Bridge and Pine Tree Store and several skirmishes. He was taken prisoner at Wilmington and held for thirteen days on a prison ship. He was allowed pension on his application executed February 23, 1832 while a resident of Duplin County, NC. He died February 7, 1843 in Lenoir County, NC. He was married by Christopher Lawson on May 10, 1808 in Duplin County to Zilphia Boyet. She was allowed pension on her application executed September 10, 1853 while a resident of Lenoir County, NC, aged seventy eight years.
