The Standard of Raleigh: 24 Sept. 1862
             DEATH OF HON. WILLIAM S. ASHE
   HON. WILLIAM S. ASHE died on Sunday night last in Wilmington, of the wounds 
received on Friday evening from the collision of the mail train with the hand-
car which he was in. He had represented New Hanover County in the Senate, the 
Wilmington District in Congress and was President of the Wilmington & Weldon 
Railroad Company at the time of his death. He was in his 50th year. He was a 
genial, kind-hearted gentleman, and his death is deplored by a large circle of 
friends.
