June 3, 1829, North Carolina Journal ANOTHER PATRIOT OF THE REVOLUTION GONE -- COL. ALLEN McLEAN, Collector of the Port of Wilmington, and the honored father of our Minister to England, died at Wilmington about sunset on Friday last, in the 83rd year of his age. The deceased was born on the 6th of august 1746. He joined the army at the commencement of the Revolution, full of ardor and patriotic sentiment; which he illustrated by deeds of intrepity, and by enterprise and talents, that secured to him the regard of his compatriots and the particular confidence and esteem of the Commander in Chief. Through a long life he preserved unsullied the bright reputation acquired in his Revolutionary career: and his days were long and prosperous, so his last moments were tranquil and full of hope.
