Goldsboro Patriot July 28, 1849
In Wilmington on Sunday last, Mr. William Shaw, druggist, aged 34 years. He was a 
native of Ireland but for the last eight or nine years was a resident of 
Wilmington. He was an active, useful business man, noted for the kindness and 
benevolence of his disposition. His remains were followed to the grave by his 
brethren of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and a large number of other 
citizens
