All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Guy Potts http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00017.html#0004214 May 5, 2018, 10:43 pm Source: N C Archives Written: 1735 Secretary of State New Hanover County, NC - Will Book 4 Microfilm # S.108.165 27 Mar 1735 In the name of God Amen I John McDowell Master of the Schooner called the Jolly Bachelor? and residing at anchor in Cape Fear near Port of Brunswick and Province of North Carolina being sick and weak in body but of sound mind do make this my last will and testament in manner and for following: I bequeath thirty pounds towards repairing the inside of the Presbyterian Meeting House of Dover in Kent County upon Deleware I bequeath two pounds be paid toward repairing the Episcopal Church in Dover in the county aforesaid To my two half sisters two cows and two calves, back of ram or the value in money To my half brother Robert McDowell the sum of twenty pounds I bequeath that William Morgan of Kent County aforesaid be freely discharged of debts he owes me and bequeath to his son Arthur Morgan a young black mare I have at his house I bequeath that Mark Barden may be discharged of all debts owing to me and likewise that any poor person indebted to me that cannot make immediate payment and are willing to give security by bond otherwise may not be molested nor involved in any lawsuit by my said executors for twelve months after my decease but shall have that time allowed them for the payment of the same I bequeath that Lydia Jones if alive and not married to have two cows and two calves I bequeath that ten pounds may be given unto my uncle John McDowell if alive to be by him equally divided amongst his children All remaining part of my estate real or personal with all my goods and chattels, bonds, notes, accounts and all other debt be divided in three equal parts one third to my brother James McDowell, one third to my sister Eleanor Nisbell alias McDowell, and the last part to the eldest son of my brother James McDowell I bequeath that my brother James McDowell work on the account of what I have bequeath him and take particular care of the blind boy at his house according to my father's desire giving him clothing I wish to be buried and a small brick wall be made surrounding my grave with two marble stones set up one at the head and one at the foot commonly used in such cases at Philadelphia My executors are Hugh Campbell and James Early both on Brunswick on Cape Fear River in North Carolina, Robert McDowell in Newcastle County, Mark Grier in Kent County and Robert Rowland his brother in law of the same county both upon Delaware River Witnesses: Stephen Mott, A Delabastie, W Blyth and Magdalen Campbell File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/newhanover/wills/mcdowell3429wl.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ncfiles/ File size: 3.2 Kb
