DAVID LONZO ALLEN

   Funeral services for David L. Allen, 40, who died early Thursday morning, 
September 5, in a Norfolk hospital after a long illness, were conducted Saturday 
at 2 p.m. in the H.M. Purviance Memorial Chapel, Boykins, by Rev. Thomas 
Caulkins, pastor of the Branchville Baptist Church.

   Mr. Allen was the son of Mrs. Mattie Bryant Allen of Suffolk and the late 
Lonnie Allen. A native of Severn, N.C., he had lived in Portsmouth for the past 
18 months.

   He was employed at the Ford Assembly Plant, Norfolk, and was a veteran of 
World War II.

   Besides his mother he is survived by a daughter, Miss Betty Louise Allen, and 
a son, David L. Allen, Jr., both of Emporia; five brothers, Edward Allen of 
Norfolk, John Eldridge Allen of Boykins, Horace J. Allen of Branchville, and 
Carroll Allen and Vernon Allen, both of Suffolk; five sisters, Mrs. Edward Gray 
of Newsoms, Mrs. Cleo Spence of Branchville, Mrs. Inez Gay of Portsmouth, and 
Mrs. Virginia Lassiter and Mrs. Frances Winslow, both of Suffolk.

   Burial was in the Severn Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jewel Couch, 
LaVern Warner, Newman Milteer, Grady Flythe, Kenneth Allen and G.T. Draper.
