FENTON BEAMAN J. Fenton Beaman, Sr., of Jackson, N.C., died Friday, February 1, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Richmond, after a brief illness. Mr. Beaman was born in Franklin on October 4, 1885. He was the son of Walter E. and Annis C. Beaman. He was a resident of Jackson for 35 years. At the time of his death he was the owner and manager of J.F. Beaman and Sons Lumber Company and was one of the outstanding lumber men in that section. Mr. Beaman was regarded as a man of splendid character and attractive personality. He was known as one of the industrial, civic and church leaders of the community. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nita Clarke Beaman, a son, J. Fenton Beaman, Jr., a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charlotte H. Beaman, and a granddaughter, Katherine Beaman, all of Jackson; three sisters, Mrs. Charles B. Atwill of Kinsale, Va., Mrs. John R. Covington of Suffolk, and Mrs. H.R. Paschall of Washington, N.C.; and two brothers, Herbert Beaman of Franklin and Robert Beaman of Suffolk. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from the Jackson Baptist Church. The Earl Rogers of Seaboard, N.C., was in charge. He was assisted by Dr. Norfleet Gardner, a cousin of Mr. Beaman and pastor of the First Baptist Church at Henderson and the Rev. O.L. Hardwick of Jackson. Interment was in the Jackson cemetery. Active pallbearers were E.B. Grant, W.S. Clark, Jr., C.B. Atwill, Howard Rogers, Herbert Paschall, Jr., and Willie Long.
