Bolton is believed to be the oldest man in Southampton County, died at his home in Branchville on Saturday night, August 18. He moved to Southampton County years ago from Rich Square, N.C. He was twice married, his first wife being Mary Rose Smith Bolton, who died in 1928. Surviving him are his present wife, Mrs. Nolie Avent Bolton; two daughters, Mrs. Mary B. Webb and Mrs. Callie B. Tyler of Branchville, and two sons, H.A. Bolton of Boykins and R.L. Bolton of Rich Square, N.C., all children of the first marriage; a step-son, Luther G. Smith of Boykins; and 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The deceased was the oldest member of the Branchville Baptist Church, where funeral services were conducted at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. N.B. Habel, John T. Darden sang “Face to Face,” the choir sang “Abide with Me,” and Mrs. H.M. Purviance sang “At Eventide.” Mrs. Earl W. Bryant was the organist. Masonic services were conducted at the grave in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Active pallbearers were Dr. J.M. Bland, J.M. Britt, R.A. Bryant, J.W.H. Darden, J.W. Holland, H.A. Moore, M.E. Thomas and R.D. Vick. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
