BOONE Burgess P. Boone, a well-known citizen of Boykins, died at his home December 18, in his 72nd year following a brief illness of pneumonia. Mr. Boone was the son of John and Mrs. Emma Boone of Northampton County, N.C., and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Harris Boone; one daughter, Mrs. C.P. Turner of Boykins; three sons, J.B. Boone of Norfolk, N.B. Boone of Potecasi and W.J. Boone of Honolulu; five sisters, Mrs. Maggie Warrick and Mrs. W.P. Boone of Jackson, Mrs. Emma Futrell, Mrs. W.R. Outland and Miss Lena Boone of Rich Square; three brothers, Joe and Will Boone of Rich Square and Millard Boone of Petersburg; ten grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Boone was reared in Northampton County and was a member of Robert’s Chapel Baptist Church until he moved to Boykins 25 years ago. Since that time he had been a faithful member of the Boykins Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and kind neighbor. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday afternoon by his Pastor, Rev. F.B. Handley, assisted by Rev. R.L. Haga. A quartet, “Home Sweet Home” was sung and the choirs of the two churches sang “Save By Grace” and “In the Sweet Bye and Bye.” Interment was made in Beechwood Cemetery, the active pallbearers being: Lewis Bryant, A.P. Minshew, F.M. Powell, J.W. Holland, J.T. Griffin and John B. Felts. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday school class.
