BRITT IN BOYKINS TODAY, 3:30 Johnnie E. Britt of Boykins died yesterday at the U.S. Marine Hospital, Norfolk, after a very brief illness, Mr. Britt going there for treatment only a few days ago. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Britt of Severn, N.C., and had made his home in Boykins for a number of years, where he has two brothers, B.F. Britt and W. Herbert Britt. He is also survived by his wife, who was before her marriage, Miss McTrudie Bryant of Boykins, and one son, Eldridge, besides several sisters and brothers and a large family connection. Mr. Britt was a member of the Boykins Baptist Church, and an overseas veteran in the World War with an honorable record. Funeral services and interment will be held at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, this (Friday) afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. --------- JOHN ELDRIDGE BRITT THE TIDEWATER NEWS – 08-05-1932, P. 8 John Eldridge Britt of Boykins, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Britt of Severn, N.C., died at the U.S. Marine Hospital, Norfolk, Thursday morning following a brief illness. Mr. Britt had been a resident of Boykins for a number of years where he was highly esteemed by a host of friends, and among his outstanding traits were his admirable characteristics of patience, perseverance and humor. He was a member of the Boykins Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Post No. 73 of this county, being an overseas veteran of the World War with an exemplary and loyal record. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. McTrudy Bryant Britt; one son, Eldridge, four sister, Mrs. A.J. Harrell of Potecasi, Mrs. Clyde Stephenson, Mrs. G.D. Barnes and Mrs. A.R. Hodge of Severn; eight brothers, W. Herbert And B.F. Britt of Boykins and Ed, Sam, Charlie, Julian, Mallory and Elijah Britt of Severn. Funeral services were conducted from his late residence in Boykins Friday afternoon by Rev. A.W. H. Jones of Severn, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin and Rev. R.L. Haga of Boykins. The choirs of the Boykins churches sang “Face to Face,” Mrs. Purviance singing “Sometime We’ll Understand.” Active pallbearers were the eight brothers of the deceased and the honorary bearers were: John M. Britt, Wallace White, W. Hugh Powell, H.T. Smith, E.R. Bryant, R.T. Tompkins, C.B. Rock, H.G. Coleman, H.F. Knight, W.F. McKinstry, A.L. Knight, C.T. Beaton, J.S. Eisenhart, L.A. Wooding, John Y. Mason, J. Herman Drewry and H.M. Drewry. Interment was made in Beechwood Cemetery, the casket being covered with a double spray of Easter lilies.
