Britt, age 64, passed away suddenly at his home in Boykins Thursday morning, November 18, at about 4:15 o’clock. He was the son of the late Sam Britt and Betty Pruden Britt of Northampton County, N.C. He is survived by one daughter, Miss Mabel Britt of Boykins, and a member of the Suffolk school faculty; seven brothers; W. Herbert Britt of Boykins; Charlie T. Britt, Julian J. Britt, Mallory A. Britt, Elijah F. Britt, Edward T. Britt and Sam T. Britt, all of Severn, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Dallas S. Barnes and Mrs. A.R. Hodge of Severn, N.C., Mrs. Clyde E. Stephenson of Jackson, N.C., and Mrs. Nannie Harrell of Potecasi, N.C. Mr. Britt was one of Boykins’ oldest and most prominent citizens. For over 30 years he was associated with the firm of W.W. White & Co. He was postmaster in Boykins for eight years. He had been a member of the Boykins Baptist Church for over 40 years and a deacon in the church much of that time. He was active in the church up until the time of his death. Funeral services were conducted from the Boykins Baptist Church last Friday at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Frank B. Handley of Crewe, officiating. He was assisted by Dr. A.R. Helton of Boykins, the Rev. C.P. Cleveland of Newsoms, and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin. “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” was sung by the choir of the church. Pallbearers were: Dr. J.M. Bland, John M. Hill, W. Hugh Powell, H.A. Moore, W.W. White, Jr., R.A. Bunn, Earl W. Bryant and Harry M. Drewry. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Baracca Sunday School Class, of which he was a member. Interment was made in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins.
