HENRY KING BURGWYN

   Henry King Burgwyn, 64, member of prominent North Carolina and Virginia 
families, died suddenly Wednesday, February 1, 1939, at the home of his nephew, 
John G. Burgwyn near Jackson, N.C.

   A native of Northampton County, N.C., Mr. Burgwyn was the son of the late 
George Pollok Burgwyn and his wife Emma Wright Ridley Burgwyn and grandson of 
the late Col. Thomas Ridley of “Bonnie Doon,” Southampton County, Va.

   Born in affluence he was educated at the best schools of his native state. At 
one time he was a trustee of N.C. State College and a director of the State’s 
Prison.

   His funeral services were conducted from The Church of the Savior, Jackson, 
N.C., by the rector, the Rev. D.P. Moore of Weldon, assisted by the Rev. Francis 
Joyner, rector of Littleton Episcopal Church and Rev. J.A. Harris, rector of 
Roanoke Rapids Episcopal Church. Interment was in the family square in the 
churchyard.

   Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, John Burgwyn and George Burgwyn of 
Jackson, Henry Burgwyn  and Tom Long, Jr., of the University of North Carolina, 
Chapel Hill, Bartlett Burgwyn of Raleigh, N.C., and W.H. S. Burgwyn, Jr. of Wake 
Forest College, Wake Forest, N.C.

   Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Page Cauthorn of Tappahannock, Va., 
two daughters, Miss Anne Burgwyn, a senior at St. Margaret’s School, 
Tappahannock, Va., and Mrs. Mann Q. Brown of Tappahannock, Va., a brother, Judge 
W.H.S. Burgwyn of Woodland, N.C., a sister, Mrs. T.W.M. Long of Roanoke Rapids, 
N.C., and two small grandsons, Mann Q. Brown, Jr. and Henry Burgwyn Brown.
