Harrell, after months of suffering. She was born and reared near Pinners church. At an early age she became a Christian, connecting with Pinners church and continued to be decidedly religous in thought and action. Her outstanding characteristics were modesty, patience and cheerfulness. She was a sympathetic mother and benevolent friend. In 1877 she was married to Mr. Robert Bryant and this union was blessed with 8 children, four preceeding her, and surviving are her husband and four children, Mrs. L. J. Lane, Benson; Joseph D. Bryant and Mrs. E. T. Harrell, Rich Square, and Jarvis C. Bryant, Halifax and seven grandchildren. Funeral service was conducted from Pinners church Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. B. C. Thompson, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. O. P. Fitzgerald. She was buried in the Conner cemetery among a large attendance and under a great profusion of flowers. "She did not die; She simply laid the soul's frail vesture by And gently passed away As melts the morning star in golden day; For life commending here Is but a prelude to its full career, Love, hope, faith assurance give, We do not live to die - but die to live." Relatives and friends from out of town here to attend the funeral of Mrs. Bryant were: Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Stedman, Mesdames W. D. Dickens, G. L. Applewhite, E. H. Parks, Rudulph White, Naomi Dickens and Mr. E. T. Morris of Halifax, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hall, Norfolk, Va.; Mrs. A. McDaniel and Mr. Fred McDaniel of Sunbury; Mr. and Mrs. Talmage Brown, of Raleigh; Miss Mary L. Lane, Belvidere, Rev. and Mrs. B. C. Thompson of Jackson, Mr. T. E. Bryant, of Roanoke Rapids and Mr. C. C. Harmon of Suffolk, Va." From the "Roanoke - Chowan Times", Andrew J. Conner, publisher, Rich Square, North Carolina, 2 November 1933 "In Memory Two long years have past. We have traveled the pathway of sorrow Since our loved one took her flight above. We miss the music of her voice As we would miss a dove. October 22 records the record Of our dear mother laid to rest And those that still remember Are the ones that loved her best. Some may think we've forgotten But her memory we will always keep. Many tears we shed in sorrow, When others are asleep. No matter where we visit It makes no difference where we roam, We never can and never will Forget the vacant chair at home. Life is sad and lonely, The songs of the birds don't seem half so sweet, There's a broken link in our circle That once was all complete. Oh, how vivid is the picture that memory brings to mind, to days of her face, as calm as calm and peaceful as she in her casket lay, of her hands so gently folded on her calm and gentle breast. Gone where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are at rest. Farewell dear one. You are the one we all loved best. Some day we hope to meet you in that beautiful home of rest. Signed, Joe And Essie Bryant" ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
