II, P. 8 RICHARD SPIER EDWARDS BOYKINS – A funeral service for Richard Spier Edwards Sr., 79, of Boykins, was held Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Boykins Baptist Church by the Rev. James T. Campbell and the Rev. Ben B. Ussery. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery in Boykins. Pallbearers were John M. Britt, Wilson W. Barnes, Roy A Lassiter, Henry D. Fuller, Dr. J.J. Grizzard, J.M. Powell and Wilmer Lee. Members for the Board of Deacons and the Men’s Bible Class served as honorary pallbearers. A native of Severn, N.C., Edwards was the son of Richard Madison and Mrs. Sallie Wood Edwards and the husband of Mrs. Nannie Wilhoit Edwards. He made his residence in Boykins for the past 63 years and was a retired rural mail carrier with 45 years of post office service. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Assn. and was a lifetime Deacon of the Boykins Baptist Church, where he served its Sunday school as secretary for many years. In addition to his wife he is survived by his two sons, Richard Spier Edwards Jr. of Boykins and Roderick Wilhoit Edwards and Virginia Beach; one sister, Mrs. Eunice E. Drewry of Boykins and five grandchildren.
