Edwards of 3201 W. Grayland Ave, Richmond, died at a hospital in that city on Thursday, October 13 after being critically ill for over two weeks. Mr. Edwards was a native of Northampton County, N.C., having moved while just a boy to Southampton County, where he made his home until going to Richmond. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John F. Edwards. For over 30 years he had resided in Richmond, being prominent in labor organizations there. He had been president of the Richmond Amalgamated Association of Street Electric Railway and Motor Coach Employees of America since the local was organized 10 years ago. He was also the business agent of the Transit Worker local and of the tri-county council comprising representatives for the Richmond, Norfolk and Portsmouth locals. He had a prominent role in negotiations with both the Virginia Electric and Power Company and the Virginia Transit Company. Mr. Edwards was a Mason and a member of Byrd Park Methodist Church, in which he was a member of the Board of Stewards and teacher of the Men’s Bible Class. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lina Worrell Edwards; four sons, James P., Norman R., Sherwood D., and Luna B. Edwards, Jr., two daughters, Mrs. Janie Peed and Miss Ann Edwards; three grandchildren; four brothers, Floyd and R.T. Edwards of Drewryville and V.M. and W.T. Edwards of Emporia; one sister, Mrs. Essie Grizzard of Drewryville, two half-brothers, T.H. and R.L. Edwards; and one half- sister, Mrs. Ashby Cooke of Richmond. Funeral services were conducted at four o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Bliley Funeral Home, with interment in Riverview Cemetery, Richmond.
