Born in Northampton County NC, he was a son of the late Jesse Cleveland Flythe and Lucille Davis Flythe. He was also predeceased by a brother, Paul Fleetwood Flythe. David graduated from Seaboard High School in 1957 and then served the US Army and the North Carolina National Guard. After serving in the military, he worked for Franklin Auto Supply and then Franklin Equipment Company. He retired from Franklin Equipment after 39 years of service. David was a member of Franklin Baptist Church where he was an usher, a teacher, a teller, and a Deacon, as well as a member of the Christian Men’s Sunday School Class. He also served his community. He volunteered at Southampton Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Franklin Jaycees, Franklin Masonic Lodge # 151, and the American Legion Post 73, where he served as Commander for 7 consecutive years. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed coaching his sons in Little League Baseball when they were children, golfing with his friends and fishing with his sons, grandsons, and friends. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, and the love of his life, Mary Ann, sons Walt (Kim) and Chris (Wendy), Grandsons Cole and Brady, Step- Grandchildren Patrick, Peyton, Ashton and Caroline, a nephew and nieces. David was a wonderful son, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and uncle. Visitation will be held at Wright Funeral home on Tuesday March 1, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The funeral will be held at Franklin Baptist Church on Wednesday March 2, 2022, at 2:00 PM with the Reverends Steve Gibson, Charles Qualls and Jim Hyatt officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Southampton Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Franklin Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
