Northampton County, NC - Obituary of Peter McDaniel, 1896 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From the "Patron and Gleaner", Andrew J. Conner, publisher, Rich Square, North Carolina, 2 January 1896 "We received a subscripton this week from Mr. Peter McDaniel, now over 90 years old, and, with the possible exception of Mr. James Vassar, the oldest white man in the county. Mr. J. B. Brown, of Lasker, who was to see him a few days ago reports him in feeble health, but cheerful and with bright hopes for the future. Mr. McDaniel did not make any profession of religion until a long time after he had passed his three score years and ten, but is now an honored member of Pinners M. E. church and takes deep interest in religious affairs. He is one of the old landmarks of the eastern part of the county, known by everybody." From the "Patron and Gleaner", Andrew J. Conner, publisher, Rich Square, North Carolina, 13 February 1896 "Capt. Peter McDaniel, aged 90 years, died at his home near Woodland a few days ago. With the exeception of Mr. James Vassar, he was perhaps the oldest white man in the county. He was a member of Pinners M. E. Church. He was one of the old landmarks of the Eastern part of the county. Being a man of great vitality, he was able to pursue his usual vocations until a short time before his death." ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
