Northampton County, NC - Obituary of Peter McDaniel, 1939 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From "The Denison Daily Herald", Denison, Texas, 5 May 1939, page 7 "Peter McDaniel Peter McDaniel, 73 years old, identified with the Park Hotel here for a number of years, died Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock at a local hospital after four years of failing health. He had been a hospital patient several times during the four year period and had been confined to the hospital during the last two months preceding his death. Funeral arrangements had not been completed late today pending word from relatives. Short-Murray, funeral directors, are in charge. Mr. McDaniel had resided in Denison for the last 38 years with the exception of two years spent at Mexia in the oil business. He was born at Rich Square, N. C. April 26, 1866 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. McDaniel. Coming to Denison in 1901, Mr. McDaniel was state superintendant of the Southern Medicine Company of Charlotte, N. C. traveling out of Denison. He later operated a service station at the corner of Chestnut street and Buck avenue. For a number of years he and Mrs. McDaniel have operated the Park Hotel, in the 300 block West Crawford street, which formerly was known as the McDaniel Hotel. He and Mrs. McDaniel, the former Mrs. M. Lucille Hellen, were married at Washington, N. C. on Feb. 7, 1901. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow; a brother, Stormer McDaniel, Sunberry, N. C.; a sister, Miss Parthetta McDaniel, Rich Square, N. C.; a nephew, Everet Bryant, Richmond, Va." C. for burial. Services will be held there Monday and burial will be beside his mother in Rich Square Cemetery. Mr. McDaniel had resided in Denison thirty-eight years and was identified with the Park Hotel for a great portion of that period.
