I, P. 7 LAURA BANTY SMITH BOYKINS - Funeral service for Mrs. Laura B. Smith, 77, was held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in McDowell Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Scott of Boykins Methodist Church. Burial was at Beechwood Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died Friday in a Newport News hospital after a brief illness. She was a daughter of James and Mrs. Hattie Pruden Banty and the widow of Enoch Smith. A native of Northampton County, she lived in Portsmouth 11 years until 1960. She was a member of Wright Memorial Methodist Church in Portsmouth. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ryland Grizzard of Courtland, Mrs. Lloyd Vick of Hampton and Mrs. J.B. Cobb of Hunterdale; seven sons, Leonard Smith of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Stanley L. Smith of Chesapeake, Forrest O. Smith of Boykins, Lloyd L. Smith of Newport News, Harry J. Smith of Williamston, N.C., Wilbert O.. Smith of Virginia Beach and E.J. Smith of Holland; two brothers, Vernon Banty of Emporia and Maynard Banty of Boykins; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Carter of Portsmouth; 26 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. Pallbearers were Danny, Jimmy, Howard, Wayne and Marion Smith; L.H. and Thomas Vick; and C.C. Adams.
