A prominent surveyor and timber estimator in eastern Virginia and North Carolina, he was a member of the Newsoms Blue Lodge, A.F. & A.M., the Knights Templar and Scottish Rites, and Khedive Temple, Norfolk. In addition to his second wife, Mrs. Jessica Pruden Spencer, he is survived by children of his first wife, Mrs. Jeannette Stancill Spencer, who died in 1939. They are a daughter, Mrs. E.K. White of Front Royal; and two sons, William E. Spencer of Newport News and Millard F. Spencer of Portsmouth. Other survivors are three grandchildren; one brother, Charles P. Spencer of Emporia; and two sisters, Mrs. Elena Bradley of Hobgood, N.C., and Mrs. Annie Hazel of Richmond. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Severn Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member, with Rev. J. C. Ray officiating. Interment was in the Severn Cemetery.
