KATIE PRUDEN STEPHENSON

   Mrs. Katie Pruden Stephenson, 79, died Thursday, January 10, at the home of 
her niece, Mrs. W.B. Sykes, on North High Street, succumbing to a heart attack 
lasting about three hours.

   She was the widow of Phillip H. Stephenson, and the daughter of the late 
Samuel Pruden and Mildred Stephenson Pruden of Northampton County, N.C.

   For the past two years she had made her home in Franklin with Mrs. Sykes. 
Prior to then she lived in Rich Square, N.C.

   Mrs. Stephenson was affectionately called “Aunt Kate” by her many friends of 
all ages and will be remembered for her Christian character, friendly smile and 
kind words.

   Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rich Square Baptist Church 
conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.W. Kramer, assisted by Dr. Edward Pruden. Burial 
was in the old family plot on the farm of her birth near Seaboard, N.C.

   Pallbearers were Howard Pruden, Malory Britt, James Wood, Dudley Barns, and 
David and J.R. Lawrence.

   She was survived by the following nieces and nephews; Mrs. Clyde Stephenson 
of Jackson, N.C.; Mrs. Nannie Harrell of Potecasi, N.C.; Mrs. Jess Spencer, Mrs. 
George Robert Stephenson and Julian, Elijah Malory, Ed Sam and Charlie Britt of 
Severn, N.C.; Misses Rebe and Ida Pruden and Sidney Pruden of Portsmouth; Mrs. 
Winfield C. Jackley of Chicago, Ill.; Misses Virgie and Doris Lawrence, Mrs. 
W.B. Sykes and David and Richard Lawrence of Franklin; Dr. Edward H. Pruden of 
Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Mary Pruden Vincent, Mrs. Mildred Pruden Mayfield and 
Howard Pruden of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; Randolph Pruden of Charlotte, N.C. and 
Stanley Pruden of Raleigh, N.C.
