Darden, in Branchville Friday night, August 10, in her 76th year. She was a native of Northampton County, North Carolina, and was a member of a prominent family. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Stephenson of Pendleton, N.C. Mrs. Tyler made her home near Severn, N.C., until the death of her husband, James H. Tyler, when she moved to Branchville making her home with her daughters, Mrs. N.G. Harrell and Mrs. J.W.H. Darden. She was a exemplary Christian character, a devoted, loving mother, a constant neighbor and friend, and a loyal member of the Branchville Baptist Church. Her passing on Friday night was a day of sorrow not only to her immediate family but to the community that had so long called her friend. The funeral services were conducted from the home of Mrs. Darden Sunday afternoon by her Pastor, Rev. Frank B. Handley, assisted by Rev. Ralph L. Haga of the Methodist Church, interment following in Severn Cemetery. A quartette composed of Mrs. H.M. Purviance, Mrs. A.M. Williams, Mrs. Earl W. Bryant and Miss Emily Hines of Boykins, accompanied by Miss Retta Hart sang, “When We All Get Home,” “Meet Me There” and “O Think of the Home Over There.” Active pallbearers were her grandsons and nephews. Henry Thomas Harrell, Martin Harrell, Alvin Bridgers, John Darden, James Tyler, Pete Stephenson, Carlton Robbins and Aubrey Woodard. Friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J.W.H. Darden and Mrs. N.G. Harrell of Branchville, and Mrs. R.A. Bridgers of Severn; two sons, Leon O. Tyler of Branchville and Eugene H. Tyler of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Woodard of Conway and Mrs. Edna Robbins of Raleigh; two brothers, J.H. Stephenson of Wheeling, W. Va., and C.T. Stephenson of Norfolk.
