Mr. Wood was born at Garysburg, N.C., in 1862, the son of the late Spier Whitier Wood, a lieutenant in the Confederacy during the War Between the States, and Mrs. Adna Francis Gary Wood of Garysburg and Wood’s Plantation in Northampton County. In early life he married Miss Rosa Edwards of Northampton County who survives him. Of this union there were seven children, six of whom survive him. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Sallie R. Edwards, Mrs. Ernest DeLoatche and Mrs. R.E. Barrett of Boykins, Mrs. L.L. Maddrey of Franklin and Mrs. H. Relchling of Lynnhaven and a brother, M.R. Wood of Miami, Florida. Mr. Wood was an active government employee until ill health forces his retirement a few months ago and he represents one of the oldest and most prominent families in North Carolina.
