Byrd Northampton County, NC: Lemuel Futrell's Last Will and Testament In the name of God, amen--I, Lemuel Futrell of Northampton County being weak of body but of sound sense & memory & to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed of God for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say: Item: I lend unto my wife Mary Futrell the land and plantation wherein I now live, also my two negroes Jacob and Viney during her natural life and longer and at the death of my wife Mary Futrell I give & bequeath unto my son Morris Futrell the lands and plantation heretofor left to my wife Mary Futrell to him and his heirs forever. Item: Provided my son Augustus Futrell shall on his coming of the age of twenty-one years shall make a good and lawful (right?) to Issac (Caites?) or his representations to a certain tract of land which I sold to said (Caites?). Item: I give and bequeath unto my two sons Augustus Futrell and Matthew Futrell all of my lands on the east side of the marsh mouth also if my son Augustus shall report to a good (light) as above stated then my will is that he have one hundred dollars out of my estate and no more and the above lands I give unto my son Matthew Futrell to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughters Emilene, Catherine, Frances, Sally, Jina, and Margaret Futrell my eight negroes to note: Sam, Allan, Jessy, Giles, Dorset, Jim, Maria & Harry also at their mother's my two negroes Jacob and Viney to be equally divided amongst them to them and their heirs forever. Item: My will and desire that all my property not heretofor given away be sold by my executors and paying all my just debts out of the proceeds of the sale, the balance of money I give and bequeath to my son Morris Futrell to him and his heirs forever.
