Northampton County, NC - Will of Wade H. Garris, 1871 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will: "In the name of God Amen: I Wade H. Garris of the county of Hertford in the state of North Carolina, being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make this my last will and testament revoking all others heretofore made by me. Item First. I give my wife the following property - one house her choice, buggy and harness, 4 cows and colves, 2 sows and pigs, her choice, 2 turning plows, 2 other plows, my Blythe Cart and wheels, fifteen hundred pounds of pork, fifty barrels of corn, five thousand pounds of fodder, five bushels of white peas, five bushels of black peas, one bushel of sugar, 3 barrels of flour, 60 pounds of coffee, 3 sacks of salt - 15 gallons of molasses, ______ pepper and other articles of household necessity for one year that she may require. I also give her my household and kitchen furniture of every kind and description. Item 2. I give to my son James Henry my wearing watch. Item 3. I give to my daughter Willie R. the watch which belonged to her mother. Item 4. I give to my son Andrew Jackson my double barrel shotgun. Item 5. I give to devise and bequeath my Meherrin tract of land to my children Sarah, Elizabeth, Daniel, and John upon their paying to my sons Littleberry, William S. and Dallas two hundred dollars each. Item 6. The remainder of my land I wish sold by my executors if a reasonable price can be obtained and the proceeds of such sale I wish invested and the interest to be paid to my wife during her life and at her death I give the principal to my children Susan R., Mary J., Andrew J., James H., and Willie R. Item 7. I wish all my personal property not herein before disposed of to be sold by my executors and the proceeds of such sale, together with my money on hand and what may be included from notes, bonds and accounts I wish invested and the interest arising therefore I give to my wife during her life and at her death the principal money I give and bequeath to my five children Susan R., Mary J., Andrew J., James H.,and Willie R. and should either of my said five children die without leaving any lawful issue then and in _______ I give the share or shares of the one so dying to the survivors. Item 8. I give to the wife of my son John the Roane horse and one bay Mule now in his possession. Item 9. Should I fail to get title to the Baugham tract of land now in suit in Northampton Superior Court then and in that event I charge my Meherrin tract of land with the payment of one thousand dollars to my five youngest children Susan R., Mary J., Andrew J., James H. and Willie R. Item 10. The share of the Meherrin land given to my son John is given to him in need for the benefit of his wife and childrenand is not ghargeable with any debt or ______ of his now existing or which he may hereafter make. Item 11. I nominate and appoint my friends William boone and David Barne Executors to this my last will and testament.
