Northampton County, NC - Wills - GUMBS, Abraha-1793 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Scott King Will of Abraham Gumbs Northampton Co., North Carolina 1793 I Abraham Gumbs of Northampton County State of North Carolina being sick and weak of body but of sound judgement and perfect memory and calling to mind such estate as has pleased Almighty to favor me with do make and constitue and ordain this and no other to be my last will and testament and do dispose of the same in manner and form as followeth: 1st Firstly its my will and desire that all my just debts be discharged and paid by my Executor hereafter named. 2ond Secondly I gave and bequeath to my son Nathan Gumbs one hundred of land whereon he now lives to him and his heirs for ever. 3rd Thirdly I gave and bequeath to my son Abraham Gumbs one hundred acres of land that I bought of Arthur Griffin, one cow and calf, one bed and furnature to him and his heirs for ever. 4th I gave and bequeath to my daughter Deborah Gumbs one bed and furnature, one cow and calf to her and her heirs for ever. 5th I gave and bequeath to my daughter Leah Gumbs one bed and furnature, one cow and calf to her and her heirs for ever. 6th I gave and bequeath to my daughter Easther Gumbs one cow and calf and enough to be ___ out of my estate to get her a bed and furnature equal to one of the others to her and her heairs for ever. 7th Seventhly I gave and bequeath to my well beloved wife Susannah Gumbs all the remainder of my land whereon she now lives and the remainder of my cattle and the remainder of my stock of sheep except one ewe I gave to my son Abraham before mentioned to her during her natural life. 8th Eightly it is my will and desire that my land ___ ___ as above mentioned to my wife after her decease belong to my son Humphrey Gumbs to him and his heirs for ever. It is also my desire that the remainder part of my household and kitchen furnature remain for the support of my wife during her natural life then to my son Humphrey above mentioned to him and his heirs for ever. 9th Ninethly it is my will and desire that my negro man Cato be hired out and the money to be applyed to the ___ of my wife and two sons Abraham and Humphrey to be equally divided amongst them as long as he lives or ___ for him to be sold and divided between my two affordsaid sons after the decease of my wife. 10th Tenthly and lastly I nominate and appoint my son Nathan Gumbs and my friend Isaac Parker to see this my last will and testament executed and in every part thereof proform.
