Northampton County, NC - Guardianship - Elijah Gums

State of Northampton - North Carolina

To the Sheriff of Northampton County - Greetings. We command you to make 
known to Humphrey Gums that he personally appear before the functions of 
our court of plea and greater Superiors to be held for  our County of 
Northampton on the first Monday in June next, then and there to return an 
oath his account as guardian to Elijah Gums and an inventory of all the 
estate of the said Elijah Gums ____as by law he is bound to day and this he 
shall in no wise ______ under the penalty of the law enjoins. Herein 
fail not, and have then and there this whit ______ James C Harrison as 
Clerk of our said court at office this first Monday of March AD 1817 in the 
41st year of our independance.

This was extracted by Linda King from court records in the NC Archives.  
Elijah Gums was the son of Deborah Gumbs and Nickolas Boon. Deborah and 
Nickolas were married (still researching the date) after Elijah was born, 
but from all accounts I can find, lived in the home of his mother's brother 
and sisters.
