I Elijah Johnson of Northampton County and State of North Carolina being old and weak of Body but of perfect sound mind and memory thanks be to God therefore but calling to mind the Mortality of my Body do constitute and ordain this my last Will and Testament in Manner and form following that is to say -- First and principally commend my soul unto the hands of God hoping to have free and full pardon of all my sins through the suffering of my blessed Savior and to inherit Everlasting life as to my Body I commend it to the ground from whence it was taken to be Buried in a Christian like desent manner at the discretion of my Exectors hereafter named and as touching all such temporal Estates as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I give and dispose thereof as follows -- First- I would that all my actual debts be paid and discharged Item- I lend and Bequeath to my Loving wife all my Estate within doors & without during her widowhood -- Item- I give and bequeath to my Daughter Hotten My Negro Woman Jone & Sal & her child Jenny Item- I give & bequeath to my Daughter Penny my Negro girl Pat and Ned Item- I give and bequeath to my son Dempsey Johnson my Negro boy Macke, Sam & Anthony Item- I give and bequeath to my son Elias Johnson 196 acres of land more or less and Plantation whereon I now live & my Negro Man Jack Tom & Jim & my Negro Woman Beck and all her increase and one Horse named Rubin Item- I give and bequeath to my loving wife my Negro woman Patience & her child Amy & my will and desire is that she shall not give them out of the Family And I do nominate & appoint my Loving Wife & my son in law Elias Powell my whole and Sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament Revoking disannulling and making void all other Wills heretofore made by me. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 9th day of January 1805.
