Northampton County, NC - Will of James Lassiter, Senr., 1813 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ James Lassiter Senr's Will. In the name of God Amen. I, James Lassiter senr of the County of Northampton and State of No. Carolina in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & four call to mind the mortality of the body being in perfect health and of sound mind and memory knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain my last Will and Testament in manner following viz principally and first of all I recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to be buried in a decent christianlike form and as touching my worldly estate. I give and devis and dispose in the following & viz: First I give and bequeath unto my loving sons Shadrack Lassiter, Elias Lassiter, Elijah Lassiter, and Green Lassiter and my loving daughter Penelope Mills to each of them the sum of five shillings to them and their heirs forever. Item, I give and bequeath unto my loving son James Lassiter such a part of my Land as I shall lay off for him hereafter, also one feather bed & furnitude, also one Cow and Calf, also one ewe and lamb also one sow and pigs to him & his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my loving son Kinchen Lassiter such a part of my Land as I shall lay off for him hereafter, also one feather Bed and furnitude to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my loving son Jordan Lassiter such a part of my land as I shall lay off for him hereafter, also one feather Bed & furnitude to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Lydia Lassiter one feather bed and furnitude also my riding beast, also two Cows and Calves also two ewes and lambs also one sow and pigs to her & her heirs forever. Item I lend to my loving wife Lydia Lassiter the whole of personal estate (not yet given) within and without doors and every article of all kind until my three youngest daughters namely Henretty Lassiter Abigail Lassiter and Reiniford Lassiter doth come of age and after the three last mentioned come of age I give the whole of my estate not yet given to be equally divided between them my three aforenamed youngest daughters to them and their heirs forever and likewise. I constitute and appoint my trusty friend Elliot Futrell the whole and sole of my executors of this my last Will & Testament, and do arfirm this to be my last Will & Testament In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand & affix my seal the day and year first above written.
